A Report On The Hot Chocolate Essay - 1708 Words

Christmas: a time when family and friends gather together by the fireplace drinking hot chocolate. There is a high possibility that the producer of this hot chocolate is Nestle, a leading company known for exactly that. What people are not aware of, however, is that Nestle is also the parent company of Nestle Purina PetCare who produces Fancy Feast, a brand of gourmet cat food. It has been brought to attention by various news outlets and journalists that Nestle has been using slave labor known as â€Å"sea labors† (footnote that ish) to fish for ingredients that are used in their Fancy Feast cat food. (write a bombass thesis statement later). In Thailand, impoverished migrant workers are being persuaded or sold by false promises to catch and process fish to provide for Nestle (cbc). The migrant workers are tied brutal, living in horrible conditions and have unregulated working conditions as well. According to Ian Urbina, a New York Times journalist, â€Å"on fishing boats, th ese workers routinely faced limited access to medical care for injuries or infection; worked 16-hour days, seven days a week; endured chronic sleep deprivation; and suffered from an insufficient supply of water for drinking, showering or cooking, the report found† (NY TIMES).
